About Firearm License Pro SA
We prepare SAPS firearm licence and competency applications for South African firearm owners — the correct form, a motivation letter written from your own circumstances, and a document checklist that does not ask you for paperwork you cannot possibly have.
Who is behind it
Douw Coetzee — Douw Coetzee runs Cape Town Firearm Training Academy, a SAPS-accredited firearm training provider in Milnerton, Cape Town, and built Firearm License Pro SA after watching too many correct applicants get turned away over paperwork. He has trained and assessed firearm applicants through competency, Regulation 21 and business-purposes courses, and deals with SAPS Designated Firearm Officers and the Central Firearms Register week in and week out.
Firearm License Pro SA is a trading name of Cape Town Firearm Training Academy (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2024/544330/07, at E28 De Grendalhof, Daniell Road, Tijgerhof, Milnerton, Cape Town, Western Cape 7441.
Why it exists
Most refused and delayed applications are not refused because of the applicant. They are refused because of the paperwork — a motivation that argues the wrong angle for the section applied for, a document missing or expired, a serial number that differs by one character from the dealer's copy, a declaration left blank.
Those are all avoidable, and they are avoidable in a systematic way. That is what this is.
What we do
- Generate the correct SAPS form — the SAPS 271 for a new licence, the SAPS 517(e) for a renewal, the SAPS 517(g) for a competency renewal, the SAPS 521(b) and 521(c) for changes, and the SAPS 530 for an appeal.
- Write a motivation letter from the details on your profile — your circumstances, your competency and training, the firearms you already hold, your disclosures, your club and association memberships, and the published crime figures for your own SAPS precinct where the section permits it.
- Give you a document checklist built for your situation, not a generic list.
- Track your application after you lodge it, and remind you four months before anything expires. Both free.
What we are not
We are not SAPS. We are not affiliated with the South African Police Service, we have no access to the Central Firearms Register, and we cannot approve, decline, expedite or influence any application. Only SAPS decides. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not being honest with you.
We also do not give legal advice. Where a situation needs a lawyer — a conviction, a pending case, a statutory disqualification — we will say so.
Our sister company
Douw Coetzee also owns Cape Town Firearm Training Academy, a SAPS-accredited firearm training provider (accreditation no. 4001535, PFTC no. T2503003) in Milnerton, Cape Town. The academy does the training and assessment; Firearm License Pro SA does the paperwork. They are separate businesses under the same owner, and you do not have to use one to use the other.
